Ducklings and Chicks
It is always a highlight of the school year when we have a delivery of eggs to hatch.
Partridge chicks in Secondary
This week, Secondary welcomed 18 hatching partridges into school. It has been wonderful to watch the chicks hatch and to see our students engage with their development.
In science, students explored the mechanics of hatching, learning how chicks use their egg tooth to zip out of their shells, alongside studying incubation periods and the differences between precocial and altricial species. Our older year groups delved into partridge conservation, inheritance, and genetics. They put their knowledge into practice by using Punnett squares to predict genetic outcomes and discussing the differences between phenotypes and genotypes.
The learning extended into maths, where students enjoyed weighing and measuring the chicks, later analysing the data and plotting graphs to spot patterns and trends. Our fluffy guests will be much missed now they have returned to the farm!
Ducklings in the Lower School
Children in Primary and Foundation have been delighted to welcome a group of ducklings into their learning environment. This exciting experience has provided a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning, curiosity, and observation.
Throughout the week, the children have enjoyed watching the ducklings grow, exploring their life cycle, and learning about how to care for living creatures. The ducklings have sparked many conversations, questions, and opportunities to learn across a range of areas, including science, literacy, and personal development.
The children have shown great enthusiasm, kindness, and responsibility while interacting with the ducklings, demonstrating respect and care for animals. It has been a joy to see their excitement as they observe the ducklings' behaviour and discover more about the natural world around them.
