The students from Willow and Oak had a fabulous time at Chobham Adventure Farm. They thoroughly enjoyed the soft play inside and explored the outdoor activities, including the bouncy pillows and donut slide. Finally, the students had the opportunity to handle hens and ferrets in the Animal Barn, as well as stroking the cows, donkeys and rabbits amongst other farm animals.
Our BTEC science students really enjoyed visiting Reading University this week to attend a Science workshop.
Students have been working hard in their Catering lessons this term. We are really proud of their achievements. Older pupils have been working towards their Level 2 qualifications whilst younger ones have been focusing on key skills to ensure they are safe and confident in the kitchen.
We are very excited to share our new virtual tour with you. Visit our Virtual Tour webpage to navigate around our school inside and out. The tour includes a video that highlights key areas of our site.
Elm Class went on a trip to the Apple Store in Reading to complete a workshop in creating music. The children developed their independence and life skills by buying train tickets and travelling to Reading. Then, at the store the children worked hard to create music using Garage Band developing their ICT skills as well as their music skills.
For the last two weeks we have had chicks and ducklings at school. Chicks in primary and ducklings in secondary. The children have really enjoyed learning about them.
We were overjoyed to receive these digital copies of artwork, commissioned by Cavendish Education. We think Martin did a wonderful job capturing some lovely scenes from our beautiful school.
On Tuesday, a handful of parents came in for the parent coffee morning. Mr Stewart was joined by Max Hampton, our PSHE teacher who gave an overview of RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) within the school and were able to answer any questions our parents had.
Parents were given an update on what’s happening at Heathermount relating to the school’s status, an imminent Ofsted visit, our plans to improve the grounds and buildings, and governance. There was a real concern amongst the parents regarding keeping our children safe online. Craig Drummond will be holding a parent forum on Wednesday 28th June - a link to attend has been emailed out to parents.
Mr Stewart was then available to take individual questions.
One of our parents gave us some lovely feedback:
“Thank you for such an informative and interactive Q&A session. As a parent it was incredibly valuable to hear directly from Mr. Stewart about the upcoming plans for Heathermount school and from the PSE teacher about the how this important subject is taught across all ages. And, having the opportunity to ask questions and convey suggestions/ ideas from the family’s point of view was reassuring. Look forward to more of these Q&A sessions in the future.”
We look to hold these coffee mornings (afternoons/evenings) sessions once a half term, and we will alter the timings in order to make it easier for other parents to be able to join where possible.
Term starts for students on Tuesday 6th June and there is a lot to look forward to! One of the highlights is always the chicks hatching. This year we will receive our eggs on the 20th June and hopefully we will only have a few days to wait until they hatch.
Here is a reminder of some of the key dates for the term ahead:
Rabbi Zvi provided a very interesting and interactive learning experience to our primary students. He brought his religion to life and certainly made the children think. The workshop focused on synagogues and Shabbat.
It was a pleasure to see students from Pluto and Jupiter class trying lots of new things on their residential trip.
