Art in Term 2
It has been another exciting term in art! You can read all about what students have been up to below and see lots more examples of their work in our Art in Term 2 photo Gallery.
Cherry class have been exploring a wide range of materials this term. Each week they focused on a different colour of the rainbow while learning a new artistic material or technique. The outcomes will be compiled into each pupil’s very own Colour Book, which we are excited to see come together.
Apple class have been creating artwork inspired by a winter theme. Pupils learnt how to make marbled paper and used it as a ripped background for a polar bear wearing a hand woven jumper. This project required careful fine motor skills and the finished pieces were excellent.

Oak, Pine, Willow and Elm classes are all working on a bird-themed project. Although they began in the same way, each class will produce different final pieces. Pupils started by learning how to draw birds in pencil, practising correct pencil grip and exploring different types of mark making. They then created expressive “messy birds” using oil pastels, combining precise marks for the faces with loose, energetic marks for the bodies. Each bird developed its own unique character.

Beech Class have completed their flowers project. They began with observational pencil drawings, learning to draw lightly and add gentle shading. Pupils then explored the 3D flower sculptures of Australian artist Brian Robinson, using his work as inspiration to design and construct their own sculptures from coloured paper. The final outcomes were both varied and impressive.

Mars Class have finished their final pieces for the Fish Project. Pupils applied everything they had developed in their sketchbooks, making thoughtful decisions about composition and materials. Each piece was highly individual, showing that pupils are beginning to develop their own artistic styles.
Mercury Class have completed their insect project, learning how to control pen and ink through a range of mark-making techniques to create distinctive insect drawings. They ended the unit by writing an artist analysis of Damien Hirst’s controversial insect-based artworks.

Saturn and Neptune Classes have shown great perseverance throughout the Fantasy Shoe project. Pupils learnt to draw a room using one-point perspective, creating imaginative fantasy environments for their shoes to live in.
The Year 10 NCFE Group continue to work hard on their Microstudies project. They have learnt how to produce silk paintings, achieving beautiful results. Pupils are now designing and creating their own silk paintings based on prior sketchbook work and the outcomes so far are fantastic.
