Earth Class acting with masks on

It has been another action-packed term in drama. Here is a quick summary of what students have been doing.

Foundation

This term, our Foundation students have been working with both Heather, our music teacher, and Jess, our drama teacher, to put together a mini performance for the end of term. It has been excellent for the confidence and public speaking, and we are delighted with their efforts. This will be the first time they have had a stand-alone project. We are really excited to showcase their hard work.

Primary

The whole of Primary have been working tirelessly on their Christmas Production - Penguin Pete. They have shown excellent enthusiasm, dedication and passion and are doing a sterling job. They have been practising their words and songs superbly and the show is going to be fantastic! Thank you for all the additional support given at home to practise and get costumes.

Secondary

Earth class have been doing theatre history this term and have been on a journey back in time. We started in Ancient Greece, took a virtual trip to Stratford and The Globe Theatre to learn about Shakespeare and even managed to do some restoration comedy and musical theatre. They are now busy transforming themselves into reindeer & Santa ahead of the Christmas production.

Mars class started this term by devising their very own superhero characters and creating original story lines where they experimented with stage positioning and status. They are now full steam ahead, rehearsing for the Christmas production with their entire class taking part in their first Secondary production!

Mercury class's topic this term was crime and punishment, where they took part in some ‘Mantle of the Expert’ work (made famous by education guru Dorothy Heathcote). They were treated as if they were detectives in a real life case and had to examine evidence that came into “Heathermount Police Station”. The unit of work culminated in a staged live trial complete with judge and jury!

Saturn and Neptune classes have recently been turning their hand to becoming a theatre critic as they have taken on live theatre review as a topic this term. They have worked very hard to adopt the correct subject-specific terminology in order to deliver excellent write-ups of The National Theatre’s production of The Life of Pi, which they watched in class. They also got to take part in an acting for screen workshop with actor Alexander Cobb.

Finally, the students studying for the NCFE in performance skills have progressed to look at theatre practitioner Bertolt Brecht this term and continue to expand their knowledge. They have also been taking responsibility for creating rehearsal schedules and action plans, in order to improve their existing skills and technique. On 28th November, they had the incredible opportunity to take part in an acting for screen workshop with actor Alexander Cobb.
