English

Students have been exploring a wide range of texts this term, from Shakespeare to Harry Potter, developing both their reading and analytical skills. Neptune, Mercury and Saturn classes also enjoyed an exciting visit to the Sky Studios Academy, where they created their own pitch films. It was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, be creative and experience the world of media production first hand. A brilliant day was had by all.

Maths

Across all the classes, students in Maths have been focusing on verbally explaining their mathematical reasoning behind their answers. The year 9 groups have been learning about deductive reasoning and here is a sample of what they can do.

Recently, they had the opportunity to investigate the impact of exercise on breathing rates and how this links to respiration.

Computer Science

Year 9 students are creating an interactive multi-page website for their Enterprise chocolate project. They have worked hard and developed many transferable skills.  They have learnt project management skills and appropriately combined a variety of software applications to create a product that meets real life expectations.  Students have been very creative with planning and creating the navigation buttons for the website.  Here are a few examples:

History

In History, Year 10 students are studying the AQA GCSE topic Medicine Through Time. They are exploring how ideas about illness and treatments have changed from prehistoric times to the modern day. Students have learnt about key developments such as the work of Hippocrates, the discovery of germs by Pasteur, and the impact of the NHS. This topic helps us understand how medical knowledge has improved over time and how these changes have affected people’s lives.

Geography

In Geography, Year 8 students are learning about Nigeria. They are investigating Nigeria’s physical and human geography, including its climate, population, natural resources, and rapidly growing cities such as Lagos. Students are also exploring the opportunities and challenges Nigeria faces as a developing country, including economic growth, inequality, and environmental issues. This unit helps students understand the importance of Nigeria both in Africa and globally.

Drama

See our Drama Update article for news on what each class has been doing in drama this term.

Music

This term we have purchased an exciting new instrument for the students to play, an accordion. Some of the students have already had a try and loved it!

They are working on an assortment of mini-projects including mug trays, recipe book stands, and planters. These activities are helping students to build their practical skills, creativity, and confidence.
