Construction

Construction continues to be a really popular subject with our students, largely because of the practical, hands-on nature of the course. It gives them the chance to learn a range of skills, work with tools and materials, and see the results of their efforts first-hand.

Alongside the practical work, students develop important skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and communication. Over the years, a number of students have enjoyed the subject so much that they have chosen to continue studying construction at college.

We have worked closely with SATRO for over four years through their Mobile Construction Classroom programme. The sessions give students access to specialist equipment and experiences that help them gain a better understanding of the construction industry and the many different career opportunities within it. Students also have the opportunity to attend SATRO's annual CONSTRUCTIONfest event, where they can meet employers and industry professionals, learn about apprenticeships and college courses, and explore the different routes into the sector. These opportunities help students see how the skills they are developing in school can lead to exciting careers in the future.
