CREST Awards in Science

Two older students working on a science experiment

Students have enjoyed working on their CREST awards. CREST brings science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) to life for students of all ages through hands-on activities and exciting projects.

Mars and Mercury have worked incredibly hard to complete their Bronze CREST Award projects. Students were able to choose between two investigations: creating the fizziest bath bomb or exploring how to make a roller-coaster travel faster.

The projects were completed over two dedicated school days, during which students demonstrated tremendous effort, teamwork, and determination. Working collaboratively, they first established their aims, made predictions, and designed a method for their investigation. They then researched similar projects to understand previous findings and gather ideas to inform their own work.

Using this research, students developed detailed plans and methods before creating prototypes of their bath bombs or roller-coasters. They then carried out their investigations, carefully testing their ideas and collecting results. Once the testing phase was complete, students analysed their findings, drew conclusions, and evaluated the success of their projects.

To conclude their work, students researched potential audiences for their findings and considered how their discoveries could benefit the wider community. The project finished with personal reflections, allowing students to consider the skills they had developed and the impact the experience had on them.

We are incredibly proud of the resilience, work ethic, and enthusiasm shown by every student throughout these two days. They should be extremely proud of all they achieved and of the high-quality projects they completed.

At the other end of the school, our Foundation students have completed their CREST Star Award across eight Science lessons. Throughout the programme, they explored a range of topics, including biodiversity, the Moon, and the investigation of shadows. Their curiosity, engagement, and enthusiasm for scientific discovery have been wonderful to see.
