New sensory garden at Heathermount

Over the summer break volunteers from Eli Lilly and Company Limited visited Heathermount School to create a sensory garden for the students to return to in the new term.

Sensory gardens are ideal environments for the students as they create multi-sensory experiences and a calming environment.

The sensory garden includes a pergola with coloured glass panels which creates different light effects, a herb garden which enables students to experience smells and textures, and a calming water fountain. There is also an interactive chime instrument for the students to play.

School Business Manager, Louise Etheridge said “We would like to thank Lilly and all the volunteers who helped to create the wonderful garden for Heathermount students. Also, a big thank you to Fraser from Robert Straver Ltd, who planned and organised the volunteers to build the pergola.”
