National Poetry Day and Windsor Castle

Firstly, our N1 class visited  Windsor Castle. Students from this class are learning about England in their Topic lesson and to link into this theme,  N1 thought it was fitting to go and “visit the Queen” at her local residence of Windsor Castle. The three boys were mesmerised by the huge stoney walls and the grand black gates. The students enjoyed walking around the weapon room and were desperate to try on some of the Knights armour. N1 saluted  the  Beefeater Queens guards as they marched passed us and asked “why do they have such furry hats?” They even got their picture taken next to one!

Secondly, our school celebrated National Poetry Day on Thursday. In the whole school assembly, student's were introduced to the theme and a national poetry competetion that we would like to enter. Also in this assembly three poems were read to them. Firstly, Ben (Deputy Headteacher) read 'Billy Mcbone' by Allan Ahlberg, followed by Mickey (past student and current TA apprentice) reading 'My Teacher is a Cowboy' by John Cornell and finally, Kandi with 'The Owl and Pussycat' by Edward Lear. After the students had gone,  all staff were treated to Kandi's recital of 'Chocolate Cake' by Michael Rosen. Chocolate cake was also provided too!!
