Students visit The Young Vic Theatre

On Tuesday 15th November, our students following the KS3 curriculum went to see a Year 11 GCSE Theatre in Education (TIE) production on E-Safety at Charters School. For our students it was not only a chance to develop their knowledge and understanding in this subject but it was also an opportunity to develop strategies from an Anti Bullying Week perspective. After the performance, a whole group discusion took place that looked at the piece and the drama techniques used.

On  the same day, our Primary class (N1) went to Reading Museum to look at the Victorian collection as part of their Project Class. Students were very excited and brought back with them many interesting facts. This same class travelled to London and The Young Vic Theatre on Thursday 17th  to see Fevered Sleep's 'Dusk' production. Travelling by train students practiced travel skills in getting there but once in the Theatre, the fun truely began. For one student, this was the first time he had been to the Theatre. He was very excited. The performance was/is one where the watching audience are fully involved and are encouraged to express themselves and our students did exactly that. They were totally immersed and the experience will be a lasting one.

Finally, on this same Thursday, our students collected their certificates in our Annual Certificate Evening. It was wonderful to welcome back students and their families who have recently left us to attend college courses. It was also an opportunity for our existing students to collect their certificates. It was a wonderful relaxed but formal occasion. Students received their certificates from our recently retired Chair of Governors, Sue Akester.
