Eileen Jackman becomes our new Chair of Governors

Heathermount School is proud to introduce Eileen Jackman as our new Chair of Governors. Eileen has been involved with the school since June 2014 and, following the retirement of Sue Akester, became the school’s new Chair in December last year.

Eileen has a wealth of educational knowledge and understanding that she will bring to the role.  After university, she embarked on educational research which placed her in a large London comprehensive. She quickly realised that teaching could easily become her passion so joined the staff, teaching mainly ‘A’ level. Quite soon Eileen became interested in working with the less advantaged students, including poor school attenders. This interest took her into working with offenders serving sentences in Borstal and HMPrisons, focusing on engaging them in education and training with a view to preventing re-offending.

Since then, Eileen has fulfilled several other roles including working for Surrey County Council and the Home Office, all with an Educational focus.  More recently, she specialised in Acquired Brain Injury, becoming Director of Neuro Rehabilitation and Independent Living at QEF and Principal of a Specialist College.

Eileen is currently involved with the National Probation Service and the Prison Department and is a Trustee of two Charities, one of which is the Disabilities Trust.

Eileen has quickly become very involved with the school, meeting with Ruth Bovill, Ben Robinson and Phil Silvester to continue developing the school into a great one. She attended the recent Awards Ceremony and joined pupils, parents and staff at our Christmas Dinner held on the final day of last term.
