At Heathermount we deliver a broad and balanced academic and vocational curriculum that covers all Key Stages.  It is our intention  in these pages to provide an outline of the educational journey . We have therefore provided you with links to each Key Stage on the right hand side.

Explaining Milestones for Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 students.

Students who are studying on most (but not all) National Curriculum Subjects in Key Stages 1 to 3 will be measured using ‘milestones’. Milestones has been taken from The The Rising Stars Progression Framework which was developed by curriculum and assessment experts to offer credible and robust approaches to embedding assessment of the new National Curriculum.

Each student studying the KS1 to KS 3 curriculums will be given a milestone number that they are working within. This is based, at Heathermount, on age and/or stage related.

Each Milestone has 6 individual steps and students are expected to work through these steps in their programme of study.

These steps are: beginning, beginning plus, developing, developing plus, secure and exceeding.

Students are expected to move through to their target step in one academic year.

Students will then move on to the next milestone and begin again from ‘beginning’.

When you access your My Child At School, you will recieve information on the Milestone your son/daughter is working at.

Student Fred is working on English Milestone 2 in the 2017/18 academic year. He starts at Milestone 2 Beginning in September. As he works through the year he progresses through the steps to Milestone 2 Secure in July. Fred has reached his target of progression in the year beacuse it was set at 'Secure'.

Fred will then start on English Milestone 3 Beginning in the 2018/19 academic year.

If you require further information, please do not hesitate in contacting your child's class teacher.
